Reviews For Marie Claire Magazine

Very Good Runway Coverage

I have been renewing my subscription to Marie Claire for 3 years. It is the only "womens" magazine that I look forward to in my mailbox each month. I find their fashion coverage to be complete and up to the minute. The fall and spring shows are where it all happens and I love the pages filled with what the designers are premiering. I also like the "Runway to Realway" pages. I don't however, think their stylists are the best out there, but sometimes they are pretty good. I would also like to comment on the photography. I realize we are dealing with "artists" here but I think they are also trying to sell products and sometimes I can't see the product through the grainy, fuzzy, poorly lit sessions. Not all layouts are like that but some are and I felt like I needed to speak up.
Anyhow, I like this magazine for what it is but I will admit I think they are reaching with some of their articles. I'm sorry, a day in the life with Monica Lewinsky? Puhleez! What a cow!And then they will juxtapose an article like that with one about female circumcision. They are all over the board with their political articles. I think they should stick to clothing, make-up, and opinions related to that.

A great fashion mag with less guilt!

I must admit I was a skeptic when I first saw Marie Claire pop up on the shelves. I mean how many times can you learn how to prevent your mascara from running and turn a day look into an evening look? I picked up the mag anyway simply because I am one of those people who reads just about every fashion mag out there.. (Sad isn't it)

Well I must say Marie Claire has turned out to be the silver lining to the cloud muddled with slip dresses, sex tips and skinny 17 year old models. Marie Claire actually deals with real issues and real people, taking some of the fluff out of the regular fashion magazine.

Now one must be realistic when rating a fashion magazine. While Marie Claire does touch on issues affecting women all around the world it is truly difficult to get a full grasp on an important global issue in just 3 - 4 pages with tons of perfume ads separating each page. I do believe that Marie Claire must get credit for addressing these issues and giving the reader the ability to do something about it. This isn't just about making an issue sensational but allowing readers to make a small difference in the world.

Added to the exploration of important newsworthy issues are everyday articles that make a fashion mag great. The article asking men to guess womens' sizes was an eye opener for me. I was really off on what size each of these women were. And I have really loved the guest editors and variety of articles they have come up with. Personally Splurge vs. Steal is another favorite of mine simply because I learn where I can find beauty product cheaper than the nearest department store.

All in all I would have to urge all fashion magazine readers to check this one out! It is not your everyday magazine and thank goodness for that!

Marie Claire - A Magazine For Real Women!

In the wake of most fashion magazines, Marie Claire is one most catered to real women. Women with careers, women with relationship problems, and most importantly, women with hips!

Marie Claire manages to provide a nice mix of fashion layouts, articles and fashion suggestions. Every month they feature articles like "How Much Do you Spend on Beauty?" where they interview different women, and include pictures. Most of these articles are highly fascinating because they feature real women rather than just supermodels or actresses. They also often provide fashion tips for those with less than perfect figures. A magazine like Vogue will barely admit that not all women are a size 2!

My only complaint for Marie Claire is that sometimes they feature long, boring articles. It's not that I only like fashion, it's just that some of these features ramble on and are not that interesting to me. However, just because something is boring to me doesn't mean that it's boring for everyone!

I would recommend Marie Claire to any woman who is looking for a women's magazine that is more than just smut or super skinny women. Marie Claire provides great fashion ideas, interesting features and great photo layouts!

Great women's mag!

This is my favorite women's fashion magazine. It has great fashion and beauty advice, free offers for great products, and their articles on real American women, not just waif like models are fun and interesting. I especially like the articles on women around the world. They tell the uglier side of life for many women around the world, and how to help make a difference in their lives. Definitely makes me realize how lucky I am to be in a woman in this country and not somewhere else. However like most fashion magazines, the financial side of the beauty and fashion are way out of my price range. But that kind of goes with the territory.

A pretty good magazine

This is a pretty good magazine. It gives some good advice, but it is still lacking a lot. It gives information, but it doesn't really go into any great detail. Yeah, I buy the magazine and read it every now and then just to see what is going on with it. I really prefer Cosmo, but if I can't have it this will do. It is more of a magazine for a woman who doesn't have a lot of time, but still wants to get some advice and information on new products and new information. This Magazine is pretty good, but I prefer COSMO!!!!

Advice for "real" women

Undeniably, the best aspect of Marie Claire is its acknowledgement that we're not all filthy rich fashion mavens. In each issue, there are "cheat sheets" for new tips on makeup and hair, and a "Splurge vs. Steal" section for both make-up and clothing: A similar product is shown at both expensive and inexpensive prices, pointing the way for readers like me to find what I need without breaking the bank.

Marie Claire also includes excellent financial advice, especially for investment newbies and women without anyone to look to for advice. I had no idea what or how to invest, but thanks to Marie Claire, I invest monthly in my mutual fund and have long-range financial planning and goals.

Marie Claire does have its share of unrealistic depictions of fashion and women--but what fashion magazine doesn't? If that's not what you're looking for, *any* fashion magazine isn't for you. Fortunately, Marie Claire has a healthy mix of both outrageous and attainable--the perfect mix for keeping my feet on the ground in such a hectic world.

Intelligent Gloss.

I have been reading the UK version of Marie Claire for about ten years, on relocating to the States last September one of the first items on my, 'to-do' list was to subscribe to the US version.
Whilst the magazine here is still an excellent read, it has not the 'cutting-edge,' element that sets its UK equivalent apart from other women's magazines. For example, each month the UK version features international reports, often in conjunction with Amnesty international, enlightening readers on crucial womens issues worldwide.
The American version of Marie Claire sadly prefers to put stars in unusual situations, (Charlize Theron at NASA, Brooke Shields in the Arctic etc,) this is both boring and pointless.
The fashion and beauty pages are however excellent and the 101 Ideas feature works equally well on both sides of the Atlantic.
To sum up; all in all a quality and informative read, alittle less sucking up to the stars and sugary articles would benefit the content quality.

why i like marie claire

Marie Claire is a really good magazine for a variety of reasons. They always have offers for free products, and contests on how to win other prizes. In the magazine they always have a "win this cover look" contest where they give the clothing and makeup featured on their cover to a reader. The magazine is about fashion and features a lot of cute stuff. They also do sections called "splurge" and "steal" where they show two similar items with their respective prices. One item is expensive, they do this for clothing, makeup, and accessories. For example they'll show a MAC eyeshadow and a Maybelline eyeshadow of a similar color. However sometimes they're really close but often times their is enough of a difference, but its an excellent way to compare. What I also like about this magazine is that it talks about world events. For example the most recent magazine featured articles about breast cancer, and the plight of women in Afghanistan. The magazine also features models who look healthier than the models in other magazines. While the women are thin and beautiful they don't necessarily look like they're anorexic. I mean instead of size 0 women, the women are probably size 4 or 6. The only complaint I have about this magazine is that it is fairly thin. I know this is because it doesn't have huge amounts of ads (like Cosmo or INSTYLE) but I like buying things that are bigger, although it is cheaper than the other two. Anyways this year I have started reading this magazine and its become my favorite fashion mag.

A fun fashion magazine with some substance

Marie Claire seems primarily designed for women between the ages of about 20 and 40 who are fashion-conscious but not members of the couture-buying, first-class-flying, Manolo Blahnik-wearing set. The magazine therefore features chic but not astronomically expensive fashion presented with flair and imagination and also with an eye to what women actually wear in their daily lives. Regular features like "Runway to Real Way" show designer fashions from the latest shows side-by-side with very similar-looking less expensive versions of the outfits.
What makes Marie Claire stand out among the glossy fashion magazines, though, is its unusual--indeed unique-- commitment to informing its readers about the conditions of women around the world. Every issue contains at least one article about issues faced by women outside the US, often in developing nations. Subjects have included honor killings in the Middle East (the practice of families killing wives and daughters who are even suspected of impropriety), forced marriage, the political oppression of women by the Taliban in Afganistan, and female genital mutilation in African nations. The sometimes grim subject matter is presented with intelligence, compassion, and solid journalism, and its inclusion in the magazine signals a recognition that its readers are interested in substance as well as style.
Unfortunately, probably because of market pressures, recent issues of Marie Claire seem to be "dumbing down" a bit. The stories about international women's issues have become somewhat more sensational (more about rape than about voting rights). And there seems to be an increasing emphasis on articles of the "What Do Men Think of Your Body?" variety. Among fashion magazines, though, Marie Claire continues to be one of the more worthwhile.

Wild and Brilliant Marie

Like an old friend, Marie Claire gives you limitless fashion advice, passes on the occasional bit of major world news, tells you when your butt looks too big, and shares your relationship (but not your financial) woes.
Most of the sections are concerned with shopping, shopping, and shopping, but there a few sections which pertain to shopping... no, I'm kidding. There are very interesting stories about world events, which sometimes end with an address to which you can send checks, and question-and-answer coklumns to help you improve your image and update your wardrobe.
Bottom line? Marie's an excellent magazine to brush up on your shopping skills with, but don't look for anyhitng in here that will change the fate of the world or permanently knock the planets out of alignment, excet for maybe a photo of the dreaded stripes-with-plaids combination.
