Reviews For Parents Magazine

Helpful hints for first time parents

I have recently had my very first child... you know what ??? They don't come with an instruction manual...

All kidding aside, I have seen alot of people rate this magazine poorly because it prints mostly common sense. Not every first time parent gets that "common sense" specially if they haven't had alot of experience with brand new little babies.

This magazine helps with pointers from newborn through to teen years. Articles on health, education and crafts and neat things to do with your child.

As well it has articles just for the parent about how to make themselves feel a bit better. It seems no one really gets a new mom ready for just what happens to her after baby is born, this magazine can help with that alot.

There is a section in each magazine called As They Grow. This section is highly valueable to me since it lets me know alot about my infant son. Things like how to help him develope mentally and physically.

Vital for the first few months !

I absolutely loved this magazine when my girls were babies and even when I was pregnant with my second also ! The articles they provide for early development and what they should be doing at certain ages..etc... but I felt like as they grew older past age one the articles became less and less specific into problems and developments-became much more general... But the advertisements showing off all the new baby products was nice and off course the occasional coupons too !! I would consider this a valuable gift to a new mom or a new mom-to-be !! And how about getting your self one too while your at it ?!

One of the better magazines

I enjoy reading all of my parenting magazines(5 total) and have to say I like some of their articles, but I feel it is made up a lot like Child magazine. Parents has more article than Child. Some of them I skip over automatically, while others I find extremely helpful. I enjoy reading letters from other readers, parent of the month, and advice from other readers about getting children to eat their veggies, party planning suggestions, and sleep help. This part is may favorite area. I do not like all their advertisements. They have way too many. I've seen every name brand diaper ad in their magazine at one time. Some of their articles are a bit too opinionated for me, but I skip over those. They do have some great ideas for recipes that have really helped. Overall it is one of the better magazines as long as you don't read to much into advice you might find offensive.

Read the important news, skip the rest.

When you are a first time parent, you appreciate all the information you can get. Parents not only gives you articles on your own child?s stage of life, but also older kids, which shows you what you have to look forward to. Everything in this magazine targets the lifestyle of a parent. (Unfortunately, the magazine?s effort to address Dads, failed in my opinion.) The recipes are quick and easy and offer tips on getting your child to eat a well-balanced meal. Arts and Crafts not only serve the purpose of keeping your child busy, but also save money by making gifts and cards at home rather than buying the expensive ones.

The best part about this magazine, (and the part that I read immediately) is the ?It worked for me.? and ?How embarrassing!? These are both reader supplied short articles. The ?It worked for me.? will keep you saying ?Why didn?t I think of that?? and you?ll use some of them from that point on, or create your own variation. The ?How embarrassing!? articles illustrate the funny aspects of raising a child. I also recommend the ?Out of the Mouths of Babes?? is also hilarious.

The only thing that I don?t appreciate about this magazine, are the celebrity articles. Every month there is a different celebrity Mom who gets a two page article on their day-to-day routine of raising their child(ren). I always wonder how many readers get relate to these Moms. Most of us, don?t have 24hr. nannies that will take over the might feedings when we aren?t in the mood to wake up and nurse (like Cindy Crawford). How many moms do you know that can leave one child at home with a Nanny while they go shopping with only one, because it?s hard to control two kids when shopping. I assume that people in this situation don?t need a parenting magazine to help them raise a child either.

Common Sense Parenting

Parents magazine contains many articles about everyday parenting issues. They do not go into deep parenting issues that most of us will never have to deal with. The writers of the magazine do try to keep everyone happy with these articles. For example, they will state that breastfeeding is best for your baby, but formula is also good. They do have excellent ideas for easy to make recipes that the entire family would enjoy, and many rainy day craft ideas for young children. I also enjoy their section that has an article for each stage of development starting with pregnancy and going through preteen. This magazine is very easy to read, and doesn not write over your head.

This is for you

This is a great magazine for new parents and old parents. It is full of terrific information about raising a good child. In this day you never know what you are going to run into and for all of the advise you need this is a one stop shopping spot. I go to this magazine for everything from new toys to recalls. They are always upto date with new things and the latest child information. And now that I have a year old daughter, I only trust the best information that I can find. It is so hard to be able to find a good article that I can trust the information. When in doubt, Parents is were I turn.

What to buy Expectant Parents

This magazine is the perfect gift for expectant parents to kind of "see what their in for" or even to have filed away for later when their kids are older and are going through particular things like bed-wetting, terrible twos, etc.... The big plus to this magazine is that it has "in general" articles to kind of apply to your own situation. It also has an "age by age" section for books, magazines, movies, etc..... so you can find the perfect gift for your toddler, preschooler, etc.....depending on their age. I would recommend this magazine to anyone with kids. It has something for everyone.

Extremely Useful for ALL parents

I was given a subscription of this magazine as a gift for my baby shower over a year ago.Now that my daughter is 13 months old,I have found this magazine to be a God-send when I need information about my daughter's development.I especially enjoy reading the reviews about new toys that kids might enjoy-including books. This magazine also offers specially geared sections depending on the child's age group. There are product recalls,mom-friendly recipes, and also solutions to common child rearing problems that parents face. The magazine is upbeat and easy to read and is a wonderful value.I have given several subscriptions to new parents and all give it rave reviews. This magazine will help calm some concerns while providing you with up-to-date health care information.

Raising Kids in the Modern World

Parents magazine is a very good publication about raising kids to be happy, healthy adults. It offers some good advice about the task of parenthood, illustrating the hard work and rewards that go hand in hand if parents perform their role in the best possible manner.

I like this magazine as a whole, but there are a few things that potential readers need to know about before they pick up a copy to read. First of all, the articles in Parents magazine deal mostly with younger children, below twelve years of age. You won't find much of value in this magazine if you have teenagers. It is intended more for families with youngsters.

Another thing about this magazine that makes it less practical than it otherwise would be is the suggestions for family activities. The ideas presented here are all pretty good, but the problem is that the majority of them involve outlays of cash and/or time that are unrealistic for most families. I can agree, for example, that adding a game room would make a nice addition to one's house and would add tremendously to a family's time spent together. But how many among us can afford a home addition? Parents magazine talks about activities and enhancements like this in an unrealistic way, making them seem much simpler and easier to implement than they really are.

Aside from distractions like that, however, Parents is a very good magazine to read. It's one of the longest magazines you can buy, with 200 to 300 pages per issue. Add to that the low subscription price, a few pages of coupons, and the generally sound parental advice and you have all the makings of a good magazine for young families.

A Good Magazine

I like this magazine mostly for the activities and the developmental articles. I agree with some of the other reviews that say that it's "age-biased," but you have to remember that when they publish a magazine, they are targeting a specific audience. 18-34 IS their target audience. If you don't fit in that range, then buy another magazine! I don't buy Cosmo girl because, duh, I'm not a teen-ager anymore. I think this magazine has fun ideas and helpful information about baby products (such as consumer reports and recall information on strollers, carseats, toys, etc). And contrary to other reviews, they DO feature children of all different races, they DO have articles on children who are physically/mentally challenged, and they DO have articles on the benefits of breastfeeding. I don't expect their material to cater to my exact lifestyle (I haven't seen an article about vegan babies yet and I'd like to see something about cloth diapering) but I think they do a good job of trying to include all different kinds of families and parenting styles.
