Reviews For Seventeen Magazine

Seventeen - bad example for teens

I really think that Seventeen is a bad example for teens. It has alot of things about dressing sexy , boys and ecspesially sex.Which is that a bad example. It gives teens the wrong idea about life and how to live it .
Also the first time i subscribed to it , it was a very cool magazine .Now it keeps going down on popularity , and I think because of what i said above .
There are also alot of ads I could even say they're more ads then articles themselves.I know that teenagers find this magazine cool , hot and awesome But i DO NOT think that it's right .
****Thank you****

Is This What is Expected of Teenagers today?

Is this what teenagers today should look like? What about those teenagers out there who doesnt want to spend 140 dollars on a pair of blue-jeans just because their favorite star is wearing them for the moment?
I open this magazine and the first thing that comes to mind, is they flaunt clothes, movies, and glamour to todays children expecting them to buy, buy and buy when most of the children that read the magazine dont have jobs, or money. Some of the editorials are fun to read, and some of the star gossip, but they make everything seem affordable, and they make teenagers of todays generation feel they must have this hair style, and they must wear this nail polish. But what they arent telling teenagers is that not everything in the magazine is for them, and they must be themselves in order to succeed in life. Teenagers today must be themselves and wear what makes them comfortable. Thin is not always in, and a tight pair of blue jeans is not always the route to take.

Portrays Typical Society View of Teenage Girls

For over three years I have been a subscriber to YM, Cosmo Girl, Seventeen, and now the new Elle Girl and I have to say between all of them Seventeen is the worst. The magizine seems to only focus on how to make young women look prettier, dress better, or get a boyfriend. It does not give you the feeling that you are already great and beautiful or does it give good advice to girls. I would not recomend this magizine to any teenager. If you are searching for a good teen magizine I suggest one of the other three above, they are much better.

Seventeen is more for preteens...

I think Seventeen has changed a lot since I started subscribing to it 3 years ago. There used to be a stronger focus on fashion and beauty, but now there's a lot of quizzes and articles that aren't very helpful. Now that I'm almost 18, it doesn't have the same kind of appeal for me anymore. Despite the magazine title, I think it's become more geared toward younger teenagers, ages 12-16. I wouldn't recommend Seventeen to someone over 16. If you're under 15 or 16, it's still a great magazine to read and you should definitely try it.

A SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD READER

I USE TO LIKE SEVENTEEN WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I DONT LIKE IT ANYMORE IT'S OK IF YOUR MORE INTO FASHION THAN READING REAL LIFE STORIES I PERSONALLY PREFER YM,TEEN PEOPLE,COSMO GIRL.IF YOU LIKE SEVENTEEN YOU SHOULD SUBSCRIBE TO TEEN VOGUE IT'S ALL ABOUT FASHION AND MODELS.

I'll save you the bother

Here is a summary of every single article in every single issue:
-How to flirt
-Don't get pregnant!
-Fashions no teenage girl would ever really wear
-Do some sit ups but <3 your body just the way it is
-I'm an actress/singer but at heart I'm just a down to earth kind of gal

There. I saved you the bother. I'm 16, when I was younger I loved Seventeen, but over time I've begun to realize the redundancy in the articles. It takes me about five minutes to flip through one of these bad boys. The articles are not helpful, they talk about what "real guys" want in a relationship and give frightening advice from 15 year old girls who believe their relationships will last. The interviews with the cover girls are so cookie cutter I don't even read them anymore; every dang girl says the same thing ("I may be famous but I'm just a girl -- Like YOU! Achieve your dreams <3 <3 )

Not all teenage girls are concerned with these trite things, flirting, weird fashions and down to earth singers. I like the sections on the girls who actually DO things, I wish the magazine had more of those girls we could aspire to be like. As it is, all we know how to do is flirt really well, love our bodies and blend color schemes. It's insulting that Seventeen thinks this is all that teenage girls are interested in.

Give us some role models who aren't famous for sex tapes and singing, please!

Ok Maybe I am just 15 going on 21..

I am only 15, which is a targeted age group to "seventeen" but it lost it's appeal when I was 12! It's so young and immature, but the ironic thing is that I, too, am young and immature. I just got new interests, eclectic tastse, and my own sense of "style".

But if you are still stuck on having to be "in", listen to what's "in" and wear what's "in", then seventeen is for you. It's all about the "in" thing in today's teen girl society. Quite frankly, I am not up for reading about those poser punks like gc and avril (who doesn't know who the clash is!) all the "twinkies" (steryotypical teen girls) listen to and I'm not up for reading articles and what new pair of blue denim flares are in for the season.

Have denim flares even changed since I last read seventeen- no!! Hence.......Seventeen is a redundant magazine that you'll enjoy before you've really gotten a sense of self.

Decent

This magazine used to have nothing but ads. Well, they have cut down some of the ads and the meaningful articles. Every once in a while I come across a reall good interview, such as the one on Alicia Keys, and Ashanti however, this mag doesn't offer much more. There are plenty of quizzes and such. Overall a decent magazine for the preteens.

NOT FOR ME

I thought I might like this magazine better than cosmo because it wouldn't have so much about sex in it, but this magazine is starting to contain more sexual content. I've never been much for fashion and make-up either. I just don't like girly magazines!

Skip this one!!

I started reading this magazine around 12 years old - then it was pretty interesting to me and appropiate for my age. Now that I am seventeen - the age that the magazine is supposed to be for- I have completely lost interest. This magazine paints teenage girls as materialistic, self-absorbed, and boy crazy. YES, we can be that, but for most of us, there is a lot more going on. If you've got more on your mind then whether "boys like you?" and what color glitter to wear this season I recommend SELF magazine. It deals with everything that is important to a young woman (including beauty stuff). If you don't believe me check it out at the market!
