This magazine is a class act all the way. Everything about each issue is professional from the ads to the articles. Everything I have ever read in this magazine has brought me information as well as tips on how to do certain projects. I love their approach to innovative sewing techniques and find that each issue has something to spark my creativity. The authors are experts in their fields. You will find articles by Claire Schaeffer, Roberta Carr, & Lois Erickson just to name a few.
The tips column is another excellent feature. All the ladies who write in have an inventive idea on how to make your sewing time easier. I also like the fact that the ideas presented are classey as well as creative, you won't find run of the mill sewing in this magazine. The photographs are clear and concise. The explanations of the projects make you want to start sewing,

Thread Magazine is on the cutting edge of technology, home sewing fashion, sewing skills. I enjoy reading this magazine as I learn a lot with every issue, especially things that no home-ec teacher ever thought of teaching back in the 60's! As someone who is basically a self taught seamstress, I appreciate a resource that teaches me the how to's of finer sewing. One garment will be presented in many different ways. New ways of embellishing are shown. Sewing and fitting questions are answered.
My favorite part of the magazine are articles on getting the most from your sewing machine, especially the computerized ones. The latest issue had an article on digitizing embroidery designs just days after I bought a digitizing system. The extra information was very beneficial to me.
This is definitely a magazine that is geared for more experienced seamstresses, but that is no reason the rest of us can't learn from it.
There is advertising in the magazine, all geared to those who sew, including ads for the latest sewing aids. The photography and illustrations are excellent.
The big plus is the back cover where In Detail portrays a museum quality garment with a close-up detail picture.

As THE trade magazine for sewing professionals, Threads has never disappointed this reviewer. Each issue is loaded with "eye candy" photographs of the newest techniques, fashion trends and fabrics. There are educational articles that enable readers to improve on their skills and branch out into new interests, such as tips for working with unusual fibers, new uses for serging machines, pattern-fitting techniques. There are also regular features in each month's issue, my favorite of which is "Delicious Details," which shows and discusses attractive and unusual accessories on garments, many of which are from vintage clothing. Threads also has articles with reviews of and tips for buying new machines (embroidery, sewing, serging, ironing systems) and software (embroidery, designing, pattern making). I not only read this magazine cover to cover, but also keep it as a resource for my Custom Clothing/Alterations business. It definitely gives me an industry advantage.

I always get great ideas and inspiration from this magazine. Clever projects, like the strip quilting bags before Christmas last year, made wonderful gifts. It's not for the dressmaking pros only... there are simple and more elaborate projects. The big color photos, instructions and illustrations are very clear and easy to follow. The models displaying the designs are normal sized people not "twiggy" types, so one can really see how the clothes fit and hang on an average person. I also like the way this magazine refers to different fabrics and marvelous new ways of using these various textures. It is an entertaining magazine to read.

Threads magazine offers great tips for garment detailing, great pattern reviews, stitching tips along with fashion updates on the styles and fabrics on the runway each season. Very handy resource for a more advanced seamstress, though it can be rather intimidating for those not quite ready to toy with welt pockets and back vented blazers. It does have a fair amount of ads, none of which are of objectionable nature and tend to be centered around sewing. Even for the novice sewer it could serve as a wishbook or give new ideas to toy with.

This is a quality magazine with a knowledgable staff. I have never been disappointed with an issue--each one has helpful tips that are explained in detail with examples, good graphical representation, and procedures. A while ago my father-in-law asked me how sewing machines worked, how the threads could connect to work at all, and lo and behold, the next issue of "Threads" explained that very concept in an easy-to-understand way. I like how this magazine covers so many different topics. For example, recent issues covered such items as choosing the proper sewing machine needle for your project, how to use the different feet that come with sewing machines, how to make the perfect button hole, which hems for which garment/fabric type. Some sewing magazines just focus on the fads, spending so much time on one subject (like machine embriodery--which would be helpful if I had one!) that those of us relatively new to sewing don't get the real tips and tricks that any sewer needs to create a quality garment or other project. I have been reading THREADS magazine since I began sewing, over 12 years ago, and I have read every magazine with great interest. I've had several books on sewing in the past and have given them away, because all the information I'll ever need is in at least one of the magazine. I recomend that you make space for the magazines only, they're all you will ever need!
I have been a subscriber to Threads since it's inaugural issue, and have saved every one. The publishers, writers and editors have uncompromising standards for accuracy, originality and inspiration. While the magazine has evolved over the years, and away from accessory crafts such as knitting, it has nevertheless remained the premier publication for fine sewing. Some articles are geared towards the advanced sewers, but many basic techniques and information are shown and explained more clearly, in more easy to understand depth, than any other publication of it's type. The pictures and diagrams are professional and clear. The instructions well written. Even the advertising is worth perusing. Top caliber all around.
I have been sewing for 30 years. I started when I was only eight years old. I thought I knew how to sew. I would see garments in shows and wonder how some people could do such a beautiful job. I finally found the answer! This magazine covers so many topics to really sharpen sewing skills and make projects have that extra special touch. The articals are interesting and the instuctions are clear. Even the ads are helpful to find the hard to get items. I would highly recomend this magazine to anyone that sews.
Of all the magazines I get (and I get a number of them), this is the one I ALWAYS take the time immediately to read cover to cover. Even though every article is not of interest to me, I at least peruse it not only to expand my horizons but also there is almost always some fact or tip that can be used. This is really a wonderful magazine. I keep all my old ones. You will also see advertisers of different pattern companies....when you are looking for something different. This one is not inexpensive, but SOOOOO worth the money.
