Reviews For Marie Claire Magazine

Smart, Sassy, And Sophisticated

Marie Claire continues to be the frontrunner in magazines for today's woman. The publication accurately reflects real life concerns of women today, going above and beyond the superficial topics of men and makeup. Stories of injustices to women committed throughout the world are bound to grace the pages, serving as a reminder to the more privileged "Westernized" woman. Readers learn of new cases of bride burning in India, socioeconomical deprivation in Russia and China, and polygamous colonies in Utah. Marie Claire must also be congratulated for continually challenging pop culture portrayals of famished models, as they provide articles on body image and impossible societal expectations of women. The writers also try to include images of all ethnicities and races of people in their publications. This is the smart, hip, atypical magazine for women today.

A Great Magazine

This is one of my favorite magazines! Great sense of style for sure!

Yes it's got a lot of "typical model" types but that's what fashion is all about. It also has a lot of celebs gracing the cover, and (my favorite part) taking over as guest editors! Those are some of the best issues IMO, because it gives you a different perspective on the famous editor (it may be all a part of their "image", but do I really care? It's entertainment after all).

Another great point - this magazine realizes women aren't all five feet eight inches with 4 feet of skinny legs :-) It shows a lot of different types of women (various shapes and colors). It also tries to give us a glimpse into the world of other, often less fortunate women (from a woman who fled her country to escape female genital mutilation to women in this country who are in arranged marriages).

This is the ONE fashion magazine I must read every month - so happy when it shows up in my mailbox - and you will be too.

This magizine is Smart and very Stylish

I like this magizine and buy it almost every single month. It is a great way to keep up on fashion trends. It also has great stories of success, happiness, sadness, and heartache. I love this magizine because it really knows what women want to here about and need to know about. There are some things that could be changed, they don't have too many fashion articles for plus-size people. This maizine is alot like Cosmo or any other fashion and advice magizine. It also has great makeup and hair tips. This is a great magizine for anyone who likes to read about fashion and good stores. I would Highly reccomend it!

Marie Claire: More than just a pretty cover

Long live Marie Claire! Just kidding. This is one of the best magazines I ever picked up. I subscribed to it for about two years, along with some other like Glamour. I also bought Cosmo every now and then.

I must say I liked Marie Claire best of all.

Marie Claire is not your typical girlie mag, it really reports on women and issues affecting us around the world. This may sound a tad boring, but the articles are very well written. It?s not unusual for Marie Claire to report on rape and arranged marriages.

It?s not the typical I?m-thin-and-beautiful-with-a-perfect-man-and-perfect-job type mag. It?s very positive towards women of all shapes and sizes.

Now I don?t want you to think that it?s all stories with no fashion because they have that too! The fashion thing seem s to be geared more towards women who are somewhat well off. The make-up and clothes featured seemed to be a little bland for my taste and also a bit out of budget too.

Bottom line: If you want a meaty magazine without the Cosmoesque hoopla, this is an excellent choice!

I love this mag!!!!!

I am a magazine junkie. Every Sunday I make a trek to the store and purchase every magazine I find even remotely interesting. On the off week (you know the one) I get desperate and grab those little booklets at the checkout about belly flab and pet astrology. Marie Claire is the one mag that I can honestly say that I look forward to reading. Sure, Cosmo has great sex talk and nothing compares to the Weekly World News when it comes to shock value but Marie Claire has never let me down. They bring a nice balance between shallow and deep. In one issue you can read about sex, diet, makeup, careers and the suffering of women overseas. They always mention ways that you can help whether it be through donations or letter writing campaigns. Marie is for the well rounded women. The one who wants it all.....brains, beauty, a career, a fulfilling relationship, self acceptance and acceptance of others. I love Marie Claire!!!!!!

Marie is for everyone!

Marie Claire gives you very cool free gifts every month. Not only that, and even better, they give you special deals on products that support breast cancer or other issues that make a difference. It's a real feel-good magazine. A good chunk of the magazine every month is dedicated to real stories plaguing women and children around the world, which raises awareness. Plus the added benefit of solid beauty and fashion sections. Marie Claire focuses on the REAL issues of women every month. And the layout is quite nice...predictable every month, but new issues to debate, love, hate, or just plain enjoy reading about. I like it better than Cosmo, and buy it along with In Style every month.

Wonderful!

Marie Claire is the most wonderful magazine! I have been subscribing to many magazines for many years and this is the one that I most look forward to! I love finding this magazine in the mailbox! Marie Claire is the only magazine I READ from beginning to end. The articles in it are wonderful. I particularly like the monthly article about women in the world. It is interesting to read about how women live in other cultures. I also enjoy the monthly freebies you can take part in! There is a free gift every month that you can send away for - or you can take a voucher to one of the department stores to pick up your gift! I think you can learn a lot more from this magazine than the other beauty and fashion magazines. The articles are about more newsworthy subjects and are not all attached to beauty. I also love InStyle and Allure magazines!

Great magazine with great articles.

It's difficult nowadays to find a magazine that has comprehensive articles that are important to women. Marie Claire does a great job at being able to express the views and situations that are occuring to women in this day and age. The magazine features many great health, social, and entertaining articles, as well as keeping the magazine must-haves: Horoscopes, Fashion pages, so on and so forth. The only thing that I am disappointed with (it's a matter of who you are) is that the clothing and accessories depicted in these pages are way beyond my spending limit and is not reasonable for someone in my shoes (full-time college student and full-time professional). I must admit, they do have their pages with Splurge vs. Steal that does compare expensive items to others that are similar and are less money, but most of the time they have blouses and purses in the few hundreds range that completely amazes me. Anyhow, the magazine is excellent overall because of the content in it. The subscription is also not overly priced and I think I will stay a subscriber for awhile.

The best Women's Magazine

Marie Claire was around for quite a while before I started reading it, but I'm glad I did!! It has at least one article in every issue that totally captivates me. They always recommend the coolest things in their reviews. I have been a longtime reader of Glamour and Cosmo, and now I have added Marie Claire to my subscription list!! I would totally recommend it to anyone!! I especially like the way that they tackle world wide problems, such as genital mutilation that goes on in many African countries, and other problems that we ddon't neccesarily deal with here in the US. They are always there to pick the best trends, and they keep me well informed. I defintely plan to renew my subscription for many years to come. I would recommend this magazine to anyone interested in fashion, world topics, or anyone who just wants something good to read.

Meet the Anti-Cosmo

Marie Claire is the best womens' general interest magazine in the U.S. today because:

1) It still has the fluffy/girly "Cosmoesque" articles we can't help loving (i.e. "What are his p.j.'s telling you?") -- which the upscale fashion magazines (such as Vogue) won't cover -- but it presents these in a much more respectful way than Cosmopolitan (or even Glamour) would. ~For example, in an article entitled, "How long should you wait to get married?", a handful of couples of differing experiences simply explain what worked for them. There is absolutely no commentary; readers are to take these first-hand accounts and decide how they feel about the issue for themselves. (This is how Marie Claire does most of its articles.) This is in direct contrast to the Cosmo approach which, no doubt, would have included a timetable to follow and games to play to make it happen, all under the authoritative voice of some quacky, pseudo-"expert".
2) It has intelligent stories about women around the world. These are very eye-opening and mind-expanding, and often offer information on how the reader can get involved with the issue presented.
3) Its fashion coverage is extensive and top-notch for a magazine that is not solely dedicated to fashion. It presents trends and how to wear them in the real world, as well as a wide array of pieces for every shape and budget. (For my purposes, it serves me better than the upscale fashion magazines.)
4) It only uses models for (some of) the fashion spreads. All other articles feature the ("real") people who are explaining their experiences in relation to the articles' topics. This provides for a much more realistic perception of the body.

Considering the above, I still find it amazing that Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan are published by the same group!
