Reviews For Arizona Highways Magazine

The Grand Canyon State

Have you run out of vacation ideas? Get back on track with Arizona Highways magazine. After reading just one issue, you'll have ideas for a dozen new travel destinations. The magazine profiles everything from nature hikes, to historical sites, to interesting cities. Do you want to learn a little more about the diverse cultural heritage of Arizona? This magazine profiles the people, art, food, and traditions of Arizona. Are you interested in the Old West? Arizona Highways usually includes at least one article per issue on Arizona history.

But what really makes this magazine so wonderful, are the fantastic photographs! If you are under the impression that Arizona is just a flat desert with saguaro cactus, you are in for a delightful surprise. There are many beautiful mountains, canyons, and streams. And those famous cactus are a great backdrop to all that beautiful weather-eroded red rock and sand.

The magazine also has a humor section, upcoming events, and book reviews. It covers destination ideas for those who enjoy outdoor adventures such as backpacking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The magazine provides adequate information on the hours, fees, and locations of its travel destinations.

A Refreshing Change

Since I last picked up an Arizona Highways magazine, I immediately noticed
several changes--more color, for one. Improvements for the better.

I used to think Arizona Highways magazine was a magazine for history,
hiking or photography enthusiasts. Now it has something for everyone.

For those who like history, the March 2000 issue has two articles that might be of interest--"Early Days in Mining Town of Charleston" and "The Many Wives of Geronimo." Both give perspective about what life was like in different places in different times.

Dancers and Native Americans will enjoy "Pow Wow Circuit" about dancers who compete across the country. They dress in porcupine-hair headgear, bells, rattles, moccasins and painted faces.

Anyone interested in flowers and plants will love the breathtaking photos scattered through its pages.

Those who canoe have not been forgotten. "Canoe Quest" about a four-day paddle down the lower Colorado River is for them.

Arizona Highways has a section listing great weekend trips, such as Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell, including how to get there, what to see, how much it will cost, etc.

The hikers can turn to the "Hike of the Month" column to learn of interesting trails. The March 2000 trail is King Canyon Trail in the Tucson Mountains.

Every article in Arizona Highways is well-written, well thought out and
full of useful information.

I haven't heard of any other magazines that put together adventure,
photos and Arizona. If you enjoy Arizona Highways, you might also enjoy Phoenix Home and Garden.

Northwesterner.. southwest bound!

I am not yet a subscriber to this magazine but I will be soon. I find myself reading the copy in my doctors office and wanting to not put it down. I usually only have time to browse the articles and look at the pictures. I want to read the stories and travel tips of the many places it presents.

I have driven through Arizona a few times in my lifetime, and remember vividly a small canyon that I found complete with ghost town and the beauty of the red rock canyon walls. The magazine features such canyons regularly in their pages. The majestic Grand Canyon is well known by most travelers but the smaller and equally beautiful canyons of Norther Arizona are worth the effort to see.

I am intrigued by the many stories of the native cultures of Arizona and by including a lot of articles about this culture the magazine completes it's purpose to attract travelers to the Arizona Highways.

This magazine includes something for everyone, great pictures, good reading, food tips and a complete rundown of local festivals and activities on a month to month basis.
